Clear Christmas ornaments are a regular feature of Christmas that makes Christmas trees delightful to look at. But Christmas ornaments are not just for Christmas; they also make excellent gifts to give to someone. Reverse hand-painted Christmas ornaments can be difficult to paint and are the stuff of expert artists. However, a simpler alternative technique to paint on the reverse side is to select an abstract design that is easier to create. In this blog, we will tell you how to create a simple design using a DIY technique called the pour-paint method.

Essential Supplies That You Need

  • Clear Glass Ornament

  • Acrylic paints

  • Wax paper

  • Ribbon preferably of shiny color for hanging

  • Scissors

  • Candle Holders

How to Create Reverse Painted Designs Using the Paint Pour Method

Let's begin with the creation of the Christmas ornament.

Step 1: Choose the paint color combination

Choosing the color blend can make or break your creativity. In the pour method, dual colors are used to create a breathtaking shade. It is better to select contrasting colors. The standard colors for Christmas can be red and white. But modern shades like grey and white or blue and gold can give a nice modern touch.

Step2: Prepping the Glass Ornament

Now is the time to get the glass orb ready for painting. This stage involves mixing paints together. Small containers and candle stands are ideal for mixing small amounts of acrylic paint. Although plastic cups can also be used to mix paints, they cannot be wiped clean and reused. Make sure to rinse the insides of the glass bauble from alcohol as it clears the dirt and residue that has accumulated over time.

Magical Color Combinations

  • Classic Christmas shade of Metallic Rose gold and white

  • Turquoise and metallic antique gold for a royal touch

  • Purple and white for an amazing contrast

Step 3: Let the Paint Pouring Begin

Although there are various techniques for pouring the paint, the best is the Dirty pour method, and that is what we will be covering here. This is the central step, so you need to be a bit meticulous and pour the paint mixture in a specific way.

Firstly, remove the metal top from the Christmas ornament. Then, select the three individual acrylic colors for the color combination.

Next, layer the paint colors in the pouring container. Fill the container or jar with three tablespoons of paint that is enough to swirl around.

Thirdly, take hold of the glass ornament at an inclined angle and pour the paint mixture gradually into the glass ornament. During the pouring, rotate the glass ornament.

Keep rolling the ornament so that the inside is completely covered with the paint mixture. If more paint is required to cover the insides, then the mixture should be made again.

Do not waste the paint during the pouring process. as acrylic paint is expensive. Use a craft stick to scrape the remaining liquid mixture from the container into the glass ornament. Another way of getting the glass ornament completely covered is to squirt the paint directly. But don't do this excessively.

Step 4: Finishing off

Once the paint has been poured, wipe the neck of the glass ornament and invert the bauble completely to drain off the remaining paint from the inside.

Once the paint has dripped out, the drying process begins. The Christmas ornament needs to dry for at least 12 hours, so leave them to dry the whole night.

Handy Tips To Keep the Paint from Getting Cracked

Prepping the inside surface of the glass ornament by rubbing a bit of alcohol or water can prevent the cracks from appearing. Moreover, don't use old paints to coat the insides as old paint tends to be dry and does not provide a smoother coating.

Final Touches to Make the Ornament Stand Out

Attaching the Christmas ornament with a sparkling ribbon can be great for Christmas decoration. Another way of giving a unique touch to the painted glass ornament is to sprinkle it with glitter dust or paint the outside using gold or silver glitter paint.
